10 Secrets to Boost Your Job Search

Being unemployed is hard. Your search can drag you down and make you feel like you've hit a wall. It's a time-consuming, tedious, and exhaustive process, but don't let despair consume you. Making some small adjustments to your strategy can, and probably will, yield a positive result. Eliminate your frustration and try these 10 secrets to boost your search.

Secret #1 Having a winning attitude

You are a winner. Say that. You are a talented professional. You are a talented employee. You deserve that job. Know that there is someone out there waiting to hire you, someone interested in what you have to offer. You will find each other. Until then, know that you are worthy and be aware of the value you will bring to companies.

Secret #2 Keep your head held high

Yes, you have competition, but don't let that intimidate you! You can't control your competition, and there will always be someone who is more qualified than you, regardless of your accomplishments. You're going to have to decide whether you're going to allow yourself to be discouraged by that or you're going to work harder. The point is not always to be the best, but to do the best you can.

Secret #3 Show Your Appreciation

You know what they say, gratitude is the best attitude. You'd be surprised how many people don't follow up with a potential employer. By expressing your appreciation, you are automatically showing confidence and it allows you to differentiate yourself from other candidates. It can be a short thank you note, but it should include the reasons why you would be "the" ideal candidate for the position. It is another opportunity to show that you are still the right person for the vacancy.

Secret #4 Not every day is a good day

But it doesn't mean you're giving up. It is the difficulties that reveal our true strength and lead us to triumph. Do not martyr yourself. There are many disappointments along the way, so it will be hard to understand why you won't always have the answers Why did I get rejected? Why didn't I get contacted? Why didn't I get a second interview? No matter how well qualified you are, the truth is that not every employer is going to want to hire you. And that's a good thing because not just any employer is right for you.

Secret #5 Use a Recruiter

It's okay if you don't have the rest of your life figured out. The important thing is that you have a vision of yourself, or where you want your career to go, with a solid conviction, and an idea of how to achieve your goals. Visualize your success, then go and take action.
